Obituary Condolences

John Austin Braden

Battle Creek

John Austin Braden, 61, of Battle Creek, surrounded and held by the love of his wife, stepchildren, and friends, died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.

He was born August 21, 1953 in Jackson, Michigan, to parents Avon "Duke" and Catherine Austin Braden.  After studying art and music at Olivet College, John worked as a machine design engineer for and with the Kellogg Company.  He was employed by RDS Engineering Production Solutions.

John was an avid musician and artist.  He created such beauty with his guitar playing, painting and drawings.  He had many interests including Aikido, Tai Chi, camping, kayaking and bicycling.  He had a passion for animals, especially his pampered rescued cats.

John was so loved, admired and respected by those who knew him.  He genuinely cared for everyone he knew, and his ability to make those around him feel special will be sorely missed.  Words cannot express how deeply he touched us and how deeply he is loved.

He is survived by his adoring wife Carol (Harris) Braden; children, Zachary and Ben Braden of Grand Rapids; sister, Martha Braden Wetzel of Jackson; and his close friends who considered him family.

A memorial celebration of John's life is being planned for this summer.

Memorial donations may be made to the Will 2 Live Organization through Olivet Schools, 255 First Street, Olivet, Michigan 49076

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
