John W. Brevitz Battle Creek John W. Brevitz, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday evening, March 28, 2013. He was born in Battle Creek on October 24, 1934, the son of Robert F. and Helen I. (Mainone) Brevitz. John served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and then worked for the Kellogg Co. for more than 35 years. John married Gayle P. Miller in Benton Harbor, Michigan, on September 17, 1955; she survives. In addition to his wonderful wife of more than 57 years, John is survived by his children, David Brevitz of Kansas, Bob Brevitz of Albion, Betsy (Peter Carbonara) Brevitz of New Jersey, Laura Desrochers of New Hampshire, and Toby (Amy) Brevitz of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, R. Bruce (Frances) Brevitz of Battle Creek. John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Jane Brevitz; and Gayle's parents, Frank and Esther Miller. A loving and giving man, John was a longtime member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and served in multiple leadership roles on many Chapel Hill boards and projects, including the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and Building Fund. John also willingly gave of his time and talents to the Emily Andrus Home, including serving as president of the Board of Directors and chairman of the Fundraising Committee. He also served for many years as chairman of parking for the Balloon Festival in Battle Creek. A true and dedicated Spartan, John loved all things MSU and was a longtime member of the MSU Coach's Club. He was also a member of the Kellogg 25-Year Club and enjoyed the outdoors and traveling, but his true love in life was spending time with his family. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate John's life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Battle Creek with Rev. David L. Morton officiating.
