John Marvin Obituary

John Whitmore Marvin Tallahassee, FL John Whitmore Marvin, 87, of Tallahassee, FL, went to be with Jesus on November 30, 2010. John was born in Detroit, MI, on July 26, 1923. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Gena Overlien Marvin; son, Jay Marvin of Anchorage, AK, his wife Sigrid Brudie, and their two sons; daughter, Susan Marvin of Tallahassee, FL, her former husband Allan Stodghill, and their son and daughter; and daughter, Martha Marvin Harkness of Irvington, NY, her husband David Harkness, and their sons. His sister, Mary Marvin Dawson, and her children and grandchildren reside in Grand Rapids, MI. John was an Army radio operator in World War II. He graduated from Hillsdale College in 1948, Rochester Institute of Technology, and San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1958. He loved to take photographs, travel, hike, and model railroad. As a Presbyterian minister, he served churches in Niles, White Pigeon, Marshall (1966-1981), and Unadilla, Michigan. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, FL. In lieu of flowers, John would appreciate contributions to Kairos, P.O. Box 186, Tallahassee, FL 32302-0186, or The Shelter, 480 W. Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL 32301.

Mr. Marvin was a patient in a medical office I worked in for many years. He was always smiling and always enjoyed cookies we had out.
