Larry Arbogast Obituary
Larry W. Arbogast

Battle Creek

Larry W. Arbogast, 66,  died Monday, November 24, 2014 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo.

He was born January 22, 1948 in Battle Creek to William H. and Olive E. (McMillan) Arbogast.  Larry graduated from Athens High School and attended Northern Michigan University before serving with the U. S. Navy in 1968.  He served as a Navy Corpsman attached to a U. S. Marine Corps unit in Vietnam.  He remained in the Navy Reserve until 1986 and finished as a Hospitalman Second Class.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman and taught cross country skiing.  It was during these lessons he met the woman who would become his wife.  He was united in marriage to Mary Dawn Hampton on August 6, 1982 on Mackinac Island.

Larry worked as a machinist with the Eaton Corporation in Marshall for 30 years before retiring in 1997.  Retirement gave him time to pursue his passions, which included hunting, trapshooting and many volunteer activities focused on helping children.  Throughout his life, Larry volunteered with Toys for Tots and Big Brothers & Big Sisters.  He was very active in Ducks Unlimited, serving as State Greenwing Chairman from 2001-2004.  He worked tirelessly raising money for youth hunting and conservation efforts.  Larry was recognized for his Green Wing efforts with Michigan's Russ Bengel Award in 2005.  Larry also sponsored and hosted a number of youth duck and deer hunts on his property South of Battle Creek.  Larry got much joy from sharing his passion for the outdoors and hunting with others.  More recently, he served as President of the Scholastic Clay Target group, the "Fudd Dusters."

Larry and Mary were blessed with two sons, Seth William Arbogast (Kim LaPlante) of Columbus, Ohio and Aaron Robert Arbogast of Royal Oak who were the pride of his life.  Also surviving are wife Mary; twin brother Garry (Nancy) Arbogast of Battle Creek; sisters, Mary Lou (OD) Collins of Battle Creek and Linda (Norman) Korn of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Shaw Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited or the Scholastic Clay Target Team.  Envelopes available at the funeral home.

The family is being served by Shaw Funeral Home.
