Lawrence F. Jenkins, 80, of Battle Creek passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 after a prolonged illness. Larry was born on February 10, 1934, in Montclair, New Jersey, the son of Lawrence A.  and Sara B. Jenkins. Larry graduated with honors from Union College in Schenectady, New York and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He was discharged from the Air Force reserve as a Captain on February 26, 1968. Larry was employed by Eaton Manufacturing for 48 years as chief product engineer and for 2 years as a consultant. He was able to travel all over the world due to his employment.  He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers. 

Larry enjoyed golfing with his wife and friends for over 52 years at the Battle Creek Country Club.  He enjoyed watching University of Michigan football and the Detroit Lions.  He loved to sing, starting at an early age in the Trinity Cathedral youth choir located in Newark, New Jersey.  Larry continued his love of singing in the Union college quartet and later barbershop quartet.  He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.   There, he served as an usher.  Larry married the former Janice Jacoby on August 20, 1960 in Battle Creek where they continued to live and raise their children for 54 years.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife Janice, his daughter Rev. Debra Jenkins and son Stephen (Mindi) Jenkins all of Battle Creek. He also leaves his grandchildren, Monica Jenkins, Carter and Mallorie Jenkins all of Battle Creek. Larry is also survived by his sister Carol Jenkins (Dr. of Sociology) of Peoria, AZ and his brother Art Jenkins of Lake Wales, FL.

Larry was preceded in death by his son John A. Jenkins on June 25, 2013, his parents and his brother Bob Jenkins (Dr. of Education).

Visitation will be from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, Monday, October 13, 2014 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with a celebration of Larry's life beginning at 5:00pm with Pastor Chad Parmalee and Pastor Doug Fleury officiating.

Memorial contributions may be given to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church or New Hope Apostolic Church.
