Lucy Zalewski, 87, formerly of Toledo, Ohio died peacefully at home with her family at her side on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

Lucy was born December 13, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio to Izador and Mary

(Kubiciel) Mazurkiewicz.  She grew up in Toledo, attended Libby High School and moved to Battle Creek in 1997.  Lucy was employed as a cashier for Kroger Grocery Stores, retiring after 30 years in 1992.

Lucy was united in marriage to Stanley W. Zalewski on May 15, 1947 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Toledo, OH.  She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley on February 12, 1996; by her parents and two sisters, Jennie Smieszek and Angela Henderson.  Surviving are two daughters, Terrie (Jim) Deters of  South Bend, IN and Liz (Mike) Eby of Minnetonka, MN; two sons, James Zalewski of Battle Creek and Michael (Joanne) Zalewski of Groton, MA; three grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a sister, Bernice Cossins of Port Charlotte, FL.

Lucy was a devoted member of Regina Coeli Catholic Church in Toledo, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, the 50+ Club and attended daily Mass.  In Battle Creek, she was a member of St.

Joseph Catholic Church, where she also attended daily Mass, was a member of the Legion of Mary, Small Christian Community Bible Study, Stephen Ministries and a member of the funeral choir and the Sunday choir.  Lucy had a strong spirit and the heart of a servant. As a member of the Legion of Mary she visited the sick.  She loved to bake and worked at the rectory cooking meals for the priests at St. Joseph.

She also baked for many of the church functions.  Lucy enjoyed traveling, and making, designing and collecting porcelain dolls.  She was always "on -the-go" and loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure.

Friends will be received 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:30pm.  A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church by Fr. Christopher Derda at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015.  Interment will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Toledo, OH.
