Marcia Bell Obituary
Marcia Alice (Styer) Bell

Marcia Alice (Styer) Bell, age 74, passed away at home on Union Lake near Union City, Michigan on December 15, 2015, after a long struggle with Parkinson 's disease.  She was born April 2, 1941, in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of Leo E. Styer and Shirley R. (Balfour) Styer.

Marcia attended school in Battle Creek, graduating Battle Creek Central High School in the Class of 1959, where she edited the yearbook, the Paean, and began dating her future husband.  She then graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education.  She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority at the University of Michigan.

On August 17, 1963 she married Kenneth L. Bell, and had three children, all surviving.  She began teaching for the Battle Creek Public Schools that year, eventually retiring in 2000.  Her teaching career covered nearly 32 years, interrupted in the early years by children and short teaching jobs with the Lakeview and Harper Creek schools.  Most of her career was spent at Fremont Elementary, teaching third grade to hundreds of students.  After she and Ken retired, they moved to Union Lake, near Union City, Michigan in 2007.

Marcia loved to read to and play the piano for her students and later for her children and grandchildren.  She loved her flower gardens, sewing, doing calligraphy, and admired and loved playing with her children and grandchildren.  While in Battle Creek, Marcia was a long time member of First United Methodist Church of Battle Creek.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, two sons: Michael J. Bell of Union City and David K. (Tracy) Bell of Battle Creek, a daughter: Katherine L. (Erin) Bell Moore of Madison, AL, and five grandchildren: Leah Moore, Horace "Race" Moore, Elizabeth "Betsy" Moore, Aaron Helmer, and Ethan Helmer.  She is also survived by three bothers-in-law: Conrad Thrun of Marshall, MI, Darrell L. (Sandy) Bell of Athens, MI and Thomas E. (Peggy) Bell of Battle Creek, MI.

Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, her only sibling, Carole A. (Styer) Thrun, and sisters-in-law, Frances (Bell) Cutler and Lois Bell.

Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday, December 20, 2015 where the family will be present from 2:00PM - 5:00PM.  The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 10:30 AM, officiated by Rev.
