Margaret Squires Obituary
Margaret Ann Squires

Battle Creek

Surrounded by her loving family, Margaret Ann Squires, 91, of Battle Creek, died peacefully Thursday morning, July 30, 2015.

Margaret was born December 28, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Hugh and Jean (Wagstaff) Happell.  She graduated from Detroit Commerce High School in 1941 and married the love of her life William (Bill) Squires on September 4, 1943.  They enjoyed 69 1/2 wonderful years of marriage until Bill's death in 2013.

While Bill served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corp, Margaret worked for Burdines in Miami, Florida and Federal Mogul in Detroit.  In 1953, Margaret and Bill moved from Royal Oak, Michigan to Battle Creek, where Margaret, the #1 homemaker and accomplished baker provided a loving and nurturing home for Bill and their three children.

Margaret was active in the community, volunteering vast amounts of time.  She was the coordinator of the Franklin Food Pantry for 17 years and loved to help and serve others.  She attended and was active in the First Church of Christian Science.

Margaret was an inspiration to her family and friends, a feisty lady, a classy dresser, a loving wife, a wonderful mother, grandmother and a joy to know.  She will be forever missed.

Margaret is survived by her three children Barbara (Cecil) Ramsey of Battle Creek, Jeanette (Gary) Fischer of Battle Creek, John (Donna) Squires of Lake Orion, Michigan, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, sister Jean (John) Sarles and brother George (Bee) Happell.

As per Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place.  Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015, and a Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015, at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Battle Creek. The memorial service to celebrate Margaret's life will be officiated by 1st Reader Sue Danke of the First Church of Christian Science and Pastor Don Francis of the First Baptist Church of Bellevue.  Interment, following the service, will take place at Ft.
