Marian Dowdle Obituary
Marian M. Dowdle

Battle Creek

Marian M. Dowdle, 80, of Battle Creek died unexpectedly at Bronson Battle Creek on Tuesday, September 13, 2016.

Marian May Cochran was born February 8, 1936 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Harold and Grace (Edwards) Cochran.  She grew up in Kalamazoo and attended the Kalamazoo Public Schools.  She also took classes at Michigan State University as part of her work in food handling, service and hospitality.  Marian was employed for Bellevue Public Schools prior to working for 20 years for the Battle Creek Public Schools.  She loved working, cooking, waiting on, interacting with and taking care of the students in the Bearcat Room at Battle Creek Central for many years.

Marian married Thomas J. Dowdle III on July 4, 1970 in Kalamazoo.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom on February 12, 2000.  Surviving are her children, Jay T. (Laura) Dowdle of Bellevue, MI, James (Lana) Walker of Kalamazoo, MI, Mary (Don) Fawley of Kalamazoo, MI, Roy Walker of Texas, Linda (Don) Smith of Bellevue; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb (Cliff) Harper of Comstock, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  In addition to her husband, Marian was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.

Marian was a member of the Capt. Oscar Brady #298 American Legion Post, the M.E.A. and the American School Food Serviced Association.  Marian previously met with a group of Battle Creek Public School retirees for breakfast and lunch.  Marian loved to go fishing and not even a snowstorm was going to keep her from Nottke's or M-66 Bowl when she used to bowl in the leagues.  More than anything she loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Marian will be remembered as feisty, but loving with a good sense of humor.  She enjoyed running into former Battle Creek Central High School graduates and talking about their lives.

Friends will be received the hour prior to services at Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care, where a memorial service to celebrate Marian's life will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016.  Inurnment will be held at Ft Custer National Cemetery 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2016.  Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
