Marvel Chapman Obituary

Marvel A. Chapman Battle Creek Marvel A. Chapman, 77 of Battle Creek, died Thursday, October 21, 2010. She was born May 9, 1933 in Manistique, Michigan the daughter of the late Orin and Lila (Kitko-Parker) Baker. Marvel attended Northern Michigan University for a short time prior to completing a Bachelor of Science in Education at Western Michigan University. Subsequently, Marvel was a substitute teacher in the Battle Creek area schools from 1978 thru 2005. In addition to her teaching activities both Marvel and her husband Chappie owned the Log Cabin Inn from 1980 to 1991. One of the great joys in her life after operating the Log Cabin Inn was spending several months each summer in her Upper Peninsula home town of Gould City, MI with her husband Harold Chapman. Surviving are three children: Stacey Golat of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Michael (Victoria) Golat of Orlando, FL, and Matt Golat of Battle Creek; four grandchildren: Joseph Eitel, Matthew, Jr. Golat, Trevor Golat and Taylor Golat; two sisters: Gayle P. Alexander of Grand Blanc, MI, and C. Marilyn Latus of Seminole, FL; one brother: Douglas B. Baker of Estero, FL; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harold Chapman, daughter: Lisa Golat and brother: Paul O. Baker. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home (Please note change in the date of the service). On Saturday, November 13, 2010 a memorial service will take place in Gould City, Michigan with burial at Newton Township Cemetery in Gould City.
