Mary U. Allen, 96, formerly of St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary & her son Mark at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 211 Church St., St. Joseph.  Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kalamazoo, MI.  Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 until 7:00 Thursday at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with the Rosary recited at 6:45 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lake Michigan Catholic Schools, St. Charles Borromeo School in Port Charlotte, FL, Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools or Battle Creek Community Foundation.  Those wishing to sign Mary's Memory Book online may do so at www.starks-menchinger.com

Mary was born September 8, 1919 in Bristol, England to Alexander & Georgina (Goin) Maingot.  For seven years during WWII, she served in the NAAFI, a British civilian corp supporting the British Armed Forces as an Accountant Supervisor.  Mary toured in England, Brussels and Germany from 1939-1946. She met her husband, Second Lieutenant Paul S. Allen in Bristol, England in 1942 while he was on his way to church.  They were married May 22, 1946 at Kromberg Castle in Frankfort Germany and sailed to America in November, settling first in Kalamazoo, MI and later in Benton Harbor & St. Joseph.  She resided for the last two years with her daughter and son-in-law in Port Charlotte, FL.

Mary was a devoted housewife and Mother who also volunteered at St. Joseph Church and St. Augustine Church in Kalamazoo, St. John's Church in Benton Harbor and St. Joseph Church & School in St. Joseph.  In her free time, Mary enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening, a good book and English movies from the 40's & 50's.

Mary is survived by her children-Roger A. Allen of Ottawa, IL, Peter J. Allen of CA, & Ursula P. (Michael) Case of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren-Jenny (David) Manning, Elizabeth (Dean) Parker, Rebecca (Randy) Savage, Brian Allen, Stephen (Gerald) Case, Alicia (Therese) Case; great-grandchildren-Shannon (Darian) Eskam, Benjamin Manning, Mary (Edwin) Fields, Kaleb Allen, Joshua Allen, Brody Allen, Garret, Colton & Jacob Parker, Anna, Joseph & Emily Savage, William Case-Blanchard; great-great-grandchildren Connor & Tenley Eskam & Samantha Fields; and nieces & nephews in England.  She was preceded in death by her husband Paul on Oct. 20, 1974 and her son Mark J. Allen, and fourteen brothers and sisters, including Lydia Flowers, Sylvia Bebington & Claire Maxtead.
