Michael A. Hawkins


Michael A. Hawkins, age 41, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, June 11, 2015 at his home. Michael was born in Albion on March 1, 1974, the son of Larry and Pat (Schiavone) Hawkins. He graduated from Homer High School with the Class of 1992 and received his Associates Degree in 1994 from the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, OH. On July 9, 2005 he married the love of his life Erica Gallihugh in Homer. Michael was the Supervisor at the Homer Department of Public Works, where he worked for the past 18 years. He proudly served his community on the Homer Fire Department for nearly 20 years, most recently as a Captain. 

Michael took great pleasure in hunting, especially coyote with the Big C Coyote Club, as well as Jeeping, four wheeling, shooting, and spending time at his cottage in Harrison.  Most of all Michael cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

Surviving Michael are his wife Erica Hawkins of Homer, mother Pat Hawkins of Homer, brothers John (Holly) Hawkins of Homer, Donald Hawkins of Homer, sisters Lorrie (Bill) Bonczyk of Maine, Rosie (Ted) Glynn of Williamston, brother-in-law Scott Miller of Battle Creek, sisters-in-law Karie Miller of Battle Creek , Terra Gallihugh of Olivet, nieces and nephews, Samantha, Elizabeth, Jessica, Joshua, Larry, Ava, Raquel, Nautika, Patrick. Fur babies including his dog Ruger, H3, horse Big John.  He was preceded in death by his father Larry Hawkins on January 27, 1976.

Relatives and friends will be received Tuesday June 16, 2015 from 2-8 PM with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home, Homer Chapel 303 S. Hillsdale St. Homer, MI 49245. Funeral services celebrating the life of Michael Hawkins will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday June 17, 2015 at the Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Marvil from the Homer Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Homer. Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer Fire Department. Assistance with memorials is available at the Funeral Home.
