Miriam "Mickey" Jane Wendt Baker

Battle Creek

Miriam "Mickey" Jane Wendt Baker, age 81 of Battle Creek, Michigan, died November 4, 2015. She was born in Maumee, Ohio to Harry and Rosa (Fremion) Wendt, and was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in Toledo. Following graduation from Maumee High School, she attended Capital University, The Ohio State University, Toledo University and Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate and several master's degrees prior to obtaining a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. While in Cleveland, Miriam was Coordinator of Counseling and Lecturer at Case Western Reserve University and an adjunct at Cleveland State. Additionally, she served as a Clinical Psychologist at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Brecksville, Ohio. Dr. Wendt subsequently worked 25 years for the Battle Creek VA Hospital in the Mental Health Clinic as a Psychologist. Professional accolades included the Hand and Heart Award in 1991 for providing quality health care to veterans. Eclectic avocational interests included art, music, literature, athletics, history and architecture. She was a lifelong animal lover—especially cats and dogs. Mickey was loving and generous, and her family remembers her independence, intellectual curiosity and sense of humor. All will miss her dearly.

Preceding her in death were beloved sister Irene (Wendt) Montry, brother Samuel Wendt, and step-son David Baker. She is survived by two nieces: Rosemary Wilder and Sharon von Fange; and four nephews: Robert Montry, Charles Wendt, Frederick Wendt and Luke Wendt, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews, great-grandnieces and nephews, and three step-grandchildren.
