Norma Larsen Obituary
Norma Larsen

It is with sad hearts that the family of Norma Larsen, a Battle Creek resident for over 65 years, announces the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.  Norma, 79 years old, left this world on December 11th at 2:40 PM, after she succumbed to the progressive stages of Alzheimer's disease. Norma left us peacefully while under the care of Hospice at her cottage in Irvine, CA (near her daughter Leslie.)

Norma was born, October 5, 1935 to Ursula and Harold Blaker. Norma lived in Battle Creek most of her 79 years, graduated Battle Creek Central High School 1953 and performed in the Acapella Choir, under "Pops" Richards. She graduated from Kellogg Community College 1983 with an Associate Degree in Applied Commerce and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1993 from Spring Arbor College.

Norma was the second, of three siblings. Her brothers Gordon Blaker and younger Howard Snook, preceded her in death.

Norma Larsen, was married to Svend Aage Larsen 57 years, and had four children together. Laura (Karl Boshart) of Arlington Heights, IL, Leslie (David Bird, II) of Laguna Niguel, CA, Lisa (Ellis Rainsberger) of Colorado Springs, CO, and their son Chris (Michelle Hill Larsen) a resident of Battle Creek.

Norma enjoyed her children and grandchildren's accomplishments. She loved her eight grandchildren. Darren Boshart, (Keisha), Cory Larsen, David Bird III, Ellen Boshart, Cooper Bird, Katie Rainsberger, Breanna Larsen, and Ian Rainsberger and her two great-grandchildren, Sava Boshart and Kaden Larsen.

For years, Norma was a quilt maker and seamstress who worked from her home while assisting her husband with Larsen Construction while raising four children. After all her children were young adults, Norma graduated from college and began working at Michigan National Bank, then later at The Kellogg Foundation. Also among her many accomplishments, she taught at KCC, was active in the PTA , was a leader in Camp Fire Girls, a 4H student mentor, taught quilting classes and mentored unwed mothers. Needless to say, Norma was the quintessential multi-tasker.

Memorial and family visitation will be Wednesday, January 7th from 5:30-8:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service in Urbandale. Norma will be honored and interred at Fort Custer National Cemetery next to her husband Svend A. Larsen, who preceded her in death on August 22, 2012. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to contribute to the memory of Norma Larsen should send donations to the , www.alz.org or St.Michael Hospice  www.StMichaelHospice.com For more information please visit, www.bachmanhebble.com
