Patricia Garrett Hughes, 65, daughter of the late Macon and Tommie Lou Garrett, was born August 28,1950, in Carrollton, Georgia.  Following the death of her biological parents she was adopted by Joe and Virginia Sales and moved to Lexington, Kentucky.  She graduated from High School in Lexington.  Following high school, she served in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge. 

Patricia came to Battle Creek in the early 1970's. She met and later married Freddie Hughes, August 28, 1999.  She was employed by the Kellogg Company, where she was a Crew Leader in the Warehouse, retiring in 2004, with thirty-four years of service.  

Patricia was a member of First Salem Missionary Baptist Church.  She was involved with several ministries of the church in a volunteer capacity.  She was involved in several community organizations, she was member of the Battle Creek Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a Life Member of the National Organization,, she was a  member of the Southwest Michigan Urban League, volunteer with the Red Cross, member of Golden Star Temple, 951, and former member of the International Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Sales,  brothers, Melvin Garrett and Walter Lee Garrett.  Survivors include, her husband, Freddie Hughes, Battle Creek, son, Deon (Darmisha) Garrett, Battle Creek, father, Joe Sales, Lexington, Kentucky, brothers, Curtis (Betty) Garrett, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Willie C. Garrett, Ronnie (Eva Mae) Garrett, Stanley L. Garrett, sisters, Darlene (Frank) Martin, Charlotte Baker, Annie Bell (Chuck) Ware. all of Carrollton, Georgia,  special sons, David Broomfield, Donald Mosley, Mark Swift, Marc White, special daughters, Detra Hervey, Jennie Edwards, special sisters, Debbie Smith, Mary Redden, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2015, Second Missionary Baptist Church.

Golden Star Temple Funeral Rites, 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015. Second Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral Services, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Second Missionary Baptist Church, where Reverend William Wyne, is the Pastor, and Reverend Craig Tatum, Pastor of Frist Salem Missionary Baptist Church, will officiate.

Interment, Fort Custer National Cemetery.
