Patricia Suzanne "Patsy" Murray

Patricia Suzanne "Patsy" Murray, age 69,  died on Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014 with her loving husband, Fred, by her side at the Rose Harbor Hospice Residence of Kalamazoo.

Patsy was born in Battle Creek, MI on November 28, 1944 to James and Mildred (Waswick) Verga. She attended Battle Creek Central High School in Battle Creek before moving to California her senior year. She graduated in 1962 from Simi Valley High School in Simi Valley, California. She would say often that she loved to look out the windows during class and see the mountains. She married the love of her life, Fredrick L. Murray, on October 8, 1962, and they moved back to Michigan in 1963. They enjoyed 15 years during the winter in Panama City Beach, Florida, watching the sun set each night over the water.

Their four children survive;  Dennis (Denise) Murray of Hickory Corners, MI, Patrick (Daniela Muench) Murray of Marshall, MI, Cindy (Regina Alleman) Murray of Kalamazoo and Kathy (Tim) Sherman of Hickory Corners. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Ty Gregg, Benjamin Murray, Josh Murray, Thad Greg, Brendon Murray, Casey Murray, Connor Henshaw, Sierra Sherman and Alexis Sherman Family is what mattered most to mom and she was well known for her delicious pies. She will miss making them for family gatherings. Patsy came from a large family and wanted to be a good and loving mother to her children. She was diagnosed with cancer in her thirties and overcame the disease to live many years beyond her prognosis. She was an inspiration to many people who knew of her history with cancer. She was very close with her seven sisters; Violet Atzman (deceased), Joann Smith (deceased), Donna Wentzel (deceased), Mary (Mike) Medich of Battle Creek, MI, Elizabeth (Ronald) Moss of Battle Creek, MI, Barbara (Jim) Fitzjohn of Battle Creek, MI, Debi (Rick) Ferrall of Atlanta, GA. She spent the last days of her life with her family gathering around her each day to celebrate her life, in which there was lots of laughter and joy.

The Funeral Service to celebrate Patsy's life will be held on Tuesday, April 15th at 11:00 a.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Richland Chapel, 9170 East D Avenue (M-89) with her daughter, Cindy, officiating.  Friends will be received by the family on Monday, April 14th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens, Battle Creek.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Patsy?s honor may be directed to the SPCA of Southwest Michigan, 6955 W KL Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where her beloved feline, Linus, came to her and gave her comfort and happiness or to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, 5473 Croyden Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009 and the family would like to thank their staff for the wonderful care afforded Patsy in her final days!
