Richard Allen James Battle Creek Richard "Dick" Allen James of Battle Creek died on February 7, 2013 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born June 14, 1934 to Richard and Josephine (Grickalunas) James in Cleveland, Ohio. Dick proudly served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic and played the trumpet at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas AFB and then pursued his education. He has a bachelor's of science from the University of Michigan and obtained his Master's of Psychology from Western Michigan University. Dick worked for the State of Michigan for 30 years as a social worker, supervisor and regulatory consultant before retiring in 1996. He was known as an intellectual and well informed family man with a dry sense of humor. Dick enjoyed keeping up on current events, reading, listening to Latin jazz and classical music, bird watching, gardening, and had a love of animals. He also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Univ. of Michigan football. Dick is survived by his wife of 31 years Anne Marie (McDaniel) James; sons from a previous marriage Stanley (Paula) James of Canton, Ohio, Alan (Brenda) James of Kalamazoo; brother Jesse James of Fenton. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Harry James. The family is planning a memorial gathering at a later date at Shaw Funeral Home with interment taking place at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
