Richard passed away peacefully April 23, 2014, at the home he and his wife built and loved on Gull Lake. He celebrated his 98th Birthday with family and friends on Easter Sunday. Richard was born April 20, 1916 in East Goshen, IN; the son of Henry and Lena (Marchand) Hoogenboom. In 1936, Richard began employment as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office; retiring in 1974 with thirty eight years of loyal service. Richard was a World War II veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Army. Richard enjoyed traveling and woodworking. A former member of the Augusta Library Board, Richard was also a former volunteer ambulance dispatcher for Ross Township and a member of Gull Lake Bible Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and on several church boards for many years. On June 4, 1938, Richard married the former Genevieve Flower and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2002.

Richard is survived by his son: Ronald (June) Hoogenboom, a daughter: Joanne (Ed) Folsom, a sister in law: Vivian Flower, four grandchildren: Sheryl (Scott) Ashurst, Mark (Andrea) Domres, Lisa Hoogenboom and David Hoogenboom, great grandchildren: Corbin, Campbell, Cutler, Allison, Tori, Gabriel, and Isabelle, and three nephews.

Richard's family will receive friends Friday 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home, Delton. Richard's funeral service will be conducted Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Gull Lake Bible Church, 1491 Midland Dr., Hickory Comers, Pastors Gary Cantrell and Paul Deal officiating. Burial will take place in Prairieville Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Gull Lake Bible Church or McKay Library, Augusta will be appreciated.
