Richard E. "Dick" Norr

Richard E. "Dick" Norr, age 90, completed his earthly journey and entered the presence of his Lord on August 16, 2016. He was born on a farm near Pierz, MN on January 11, 1926 to Robert and Florence (Erickson) Norr.

In 1944 Dick graduated from Little Falls High School (MN) and was immediately drafted into the US Army. After undergoing 17 weeks of basic training, he was sent to Germany as a Combat Infantry Replacement. He served his country in WWII as a 60 mm Mortar Man with Company "G" of the 417th Battalion, 76th Division. Dick was on the front lines until the war ended on May 8, 1945. In June of 1946 he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargent.

After the war, Dick traveled to Battle Creek to see his brother, Harvey, who was recovering at Percy Jones Hospital from injuries sustained at Normandy. Liking the Battle Creek area, he decided to remain and served an apprenticeship as a Machinist then continuing to work locally in the skilled trades. Dick completed his career with 30 years of service to the Kellogg Company, the final 20 years as a Supervisor in Plant Engineering.

Dick married Kathleen Jordan on May 14, 1947. They were married for 57 years when she preceded him in death on September 27, 2004.

Dick was active at Northeastern Baptist Church in Kalamazoo. An avid outdoor sportsman, he enjoyed pheasant hunting in South Dakota with his English Setter hunting dogs and fishing for King Salmon in Lake Michigan and Walleye Pike in Lake Erie & Western Ontario.

Surviving are their two sons, Greg (Connie) Norr of Collierville, TN and Jeff (Deb) Norr of Allegan, MI; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friend, Mary Carol Wilkins; brother, Pastor Don Norr of Virginia, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters; 4 brothers; and a great-grandson.
