Robert L. "Bob" Spear Battle Creek Robert L. "Bob" Spear, 91, of Battle Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born May 6, 1921 in Battle Creek to Lawrence and Beatrice (Trumble) Spear. He retired from Post Cereals in 1978 after more than 27 years of faithful service. Bob was a long time member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was also a member at Binder Park, Riverside Country Club and was active in several bowling leagues at Nottke's and M-66 Lanes. Bob enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Bob married the love of his life, Ella "Jane" Woodward on March 23, 1941; she sadly preceded him in death on May 15, 2012. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Leslie) McCleary of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Robert (Jennifer) McCleary of Battle Creek, Jill McCleary of Pennsylvania and Rick McCleary of Battle Creek; three great-grandchildren, Connor, Devlin and Gracie; a sister, Doris Johnson of Maryland and two brothers, David (Betty) Spear of Battle Creek and James (Joann) Spear of Florida. Bob was also preceded in death by an infant son; an infant granddaughter, Deanne McCleary and two brothers, Howard "Dick" Spear & William "Bill" Spear. At the request of the family, they will receive friends on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Bob's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 1625 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice.
