Robert M. Chapman Battle Creek Robert M. Chapman, 91, died at the Oaks at NorthPointe Woods on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. He was born December 24, 1920 in Jackson, Michigan to Edgar and Helen (Moore) Chapman. Robert was a 1939 graduate of Jackson High School and served as an apprentice at the New York Central Railroad. In July 1944 he entered the armed services. He was discharged from the U.S. Army at Ft. Custer in March 1946, and received a Purple Heart. Robert retired as a machinist from Grand Trunk Railroad Shops in December 1981, after 40½years of service. Robert married Eleanor Keithan in Albion, MI on April 6, 1947. He was preceded in death by Eleanor, his wife of 58 years. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Carolyn Chapman of Battle Creek; a sister, Barbara Tully of Louisville, KY and three nieces. Robert was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed fishing throughout the year. At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where they will be received 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2012. Interment will follow at West Eckford Cemetery in Eckford Township. Memorial contributions may be made to The Oaks at NorthPointe Woods or Lifespan Visiting Nurse Services.
