Robert Simonds Obituary
Robert H. Simonds

Wesley Chapel, FL

Robert Harold (Bob) Simonds, 57, of Wesley Chapel, Florida and formerly of Battle Creek, died, Friday, May 13, 2016 in Bushnell, Florida.

Bob was born June 6, 1958 in Battle Creek to Robert W. Simonds and Nancy L. (Miller) Kearn.  He was a 1976 graduate of Pennfield High School and had resided in Florida for nearly 30 years.

Bob was a self-taught graphic designer and a savvy computer wizard.  At the time of his death he was employed as a pre-press supervisor, graphic instructor and mentor at Pride Enterprises, a division of the Sumter Correctional Institution in Bushnell, Florida.

Bob was always industrious and a hard worker.  He learned his work ethics in his family business, Swonk's Flower Shop in Battle Creek where he learned every aspect of the flower business and took care of grounds and maintenance.  Being in the flower business he learned to be affable and outgoing and always had a sunny disposition.

His enthusiasm for computers and technology led him to purchase an aerial drone before they became popular.  He reprogrammed it, extending its range and capabilities and began doing aerial photography, one of his other passions, and began doing photo and video work for area realtors and surveyors.

An avid outdoorsman and nature photographer he lived to be in the outdoors.  An accomplished photographer, he spent many days in the woods and fields with his camera and created a large library of photographs.  His passion for the outdoors began as a summer camper at the former Tall Timbers Boys Camp in Climax, Michigan.  Bob took part in and enjoyed many of the camp's activities and especially enjoyed, hiking and several canoe trips on the Pine and Pere Marquette Rivers.

Bob thoroughly enjoyed living in Florida where he was friends with many people and served as a mentor and inspiration to many inmates whom he worked with.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are sister, Kathleen (Robert "Lee") Wheless of King George, Virginia; brothers, William W. "Bill" (Julie) Simonds and Charles M. Simonds of Battle Creek; mother, Nancy L. Kearn of Battle Creek; step-mother, Jennette (Jim) Schmid of Battle Creek; step-sister, Angela M. (David) Hoxworth-Dupree of Ashland, Oregon and five nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Simonds in 2005.

"A memorial reception will take place on Saturday June 11, 2016 from 2-4PM at the Stonewood Grill & Tavern, 17050 Palm Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33647."  A memorial service will take place in Battle Creek at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Battle Creek Community Foundation—Pennfield Schools Educational Foundation.

The family is being served by the Kempf Family Funeral Home, Shaw Chapel, 2838 Capital Ave., S.W., Battle Creek.
