Kalamazoo

Robert E. Stout, age 99, of Kalamazoo died on February 25, 2016.  He married Beatrice Crawford on July 31, 1941, moved to Battle Creek and began teaching at Lakeview high school. For the next 24 years he was a biology and math teacher and was director of guidance and counseling. For several years, he also coached tennis including the state championship team in 1948. He was a musician and played oboe and English horn in the Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and Fort Wayne Symphony orchestras. He and Beatrice moved to Lansing in 1966 where he worked for the Michigan department of education until retiring in 1977 when they moved to Manistee, Michigan and subsequently to Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years who passed away November 28, 2015.  He is survived by his son, Thomas Stout, two grandsons, Michael (Kristin) and Stephen (Caroline) and four great-grandchildren, David, Daniel, Margaux and Remi.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, at Friendship Village Kiva Room, 1400 N. Drake Road. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Friendship Village Friends Fund, the Village Woods or the First United Methodist Church of Kalamazoo.  Arrangements were entrusted to Langeland Family Funeral Homes.
