Robert Lee Williaume

Robert Lee Williaume, 88, died peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2015, at Meridian Crystal Springs in Grand Rapids. Robert was born in Battle Creek on 6/16/1926, the son of Jule A. and Hyarda (Olson) Williaume. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1944, and joined the army during World War II. From 1944-1946 he served as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, 187th P/G Infantry, Company G, in the Philippines, and in occupied Japan. He was in the honor guard of General Douglas MacArthur at the surrender of Japan. He returned to Battle Creek and on May 28, 1948, married Beverly Jean Hughes, who preceded him in death on 11/8/2009. Robert was a carpenter with Local 851 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, and served as Business Agent from 1972 to 1984.

He is survived by his four children: Lois Anne Moore, David Lee (Linda) Williaume, Susan Kay (William) Wichterman, and Beth Ellen (Jeffrey) Hoffman; ten grandchildren: Joel (Megan) Moore, Brent (Anne) Moore, Eric (Christine) Moore, Rachel (Mark) Bright, Karl Williaume, Jennifer Wichterman, Melyssa (Brian) Haas, Cynthia (Kevin) Jahr, Rebecca Hoffman, and Paul Hoffman; 12 great-grandchildren: Ella, Kyla, Lana, Samuel, Jude, and Cade Moore, Megan, Emily, and Julia Bright, Isaac, Ava, and Kate Haas; sisters-in-law Ruth Bruder, Deanna (Ronald) Wilson, Dorothy Hughes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife; son-in-law Frederick Moore; brothers-in-law Robert Hughes, Jack Hughes, Leonard Bruder; and sister-in-law Beatrice Hughes.

An interment and committal ceremony will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 3/3/2015 at 2:30 p.m. Immediately following, the children will host a memorial reception at Baxter Funeral and Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, in Battle Creek. Contributions in his memory may be made to Gideons International or the .
