Sarah Lynne "Sally" (Case) Gifford Obituary
Sarah Lynne "Sally" (Case) Gifford Battle Creek Sarah Lynne "Sally" (Case) Gifford, 77, of Battle Creek, formerly of Union City, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Sally was born on February 12, 1938 to Lynn Wallace and Ruth Ann (Fredrick) Case in Battle Creek, Michigan. She lived and attended school in Union City, graduating in 1956. In that year, she also received membership in Our Savior Lutheran Church. Upon graduation, she attended Western Michigan University and then graduated from Hartford Airline Personnel School at Hartford, Connecticut. She became employed as a teller at Industrial State Bank in Kalamazoo. Sally and her husband moved to Coldwater where she worked for the Michigan Gas Utilities Company until the birth of their son, Douglas Lynn Gifford. Several years later she moved to Battle Creek and was employed by Doris Klaussen Development Center. In 1981, she moved back to Union City and was employed at Branch County Federal Saving and Loan, and was elected to a two-year term on the Union City Village Council in 1982. Though a "tomboy" at heart, Ms. Gifford had many talents, including knitting, sewing, making eggshell ornaments-thus loved attending craft shows. She was a member of the 4-H for many years taking sewing and baking classes, in which her mother patiently guided her, as well as showing her horse Bud, who received a Grand Champion award at the Branch County Fair. She relished playing her dad's cornet in the Union City High School Band and spent many summer months helping him in the fields. She loved Union City and the people in it. She was never afraid to speak her mind, but she truly cared for others and would do anything she could to help-friends or strangers. She leaves behind two sisters and a brother; Judy (Jim) Kingsley of Albion, Martha (Don) Bauman of Climax and Tom (Cindy) Case of Union City, along with nieces and nephews, Jill (Grant) Hinde of Albion, Jay (Tenicka) Kingsley of CA, Tom Talbott of Portage, Kimera Simonds of Vicksburg, Paul (Lori) Talbott of Kalamazoo, Alex (Tristen) Case of VA, in all of whom she took great pride, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Dougie, who passed in 1970. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, located 3 miles east of M-66 on M-60, in Union City. Her brother-in-law, Don Bauman, Lay Leader at the Climax United Methodist Church will officiate. A gathering of friends and family will be held prior to the service on Friday, beginning at 3:00 P.M., also at the Lighthouse. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Union City Society for Historic Preservation. Please visit www.lighthousefuneral.com to share memories, pictures and videos with the family.
