Shirley G. Wherrett, age 87, went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2016. Shirley was born on November 26, 1928 in Marshall, MI, the daughter of Lawrence F. and Floris A. (Carver) Mott. She lived on a farm near Ceresco while growing up, and graduated from Marshall High School in 1946. Shirley started her working career as an Executive Secretary, working for lawyers, Union Pump Co., and 29 years in the legal department of Federal Home Life Insurance Company. She was a member of the Calhoun County Legal Secretaries Association, The Creekview Chapter of the American Business Women's Association, and a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. Music was always a part of Shirley's life, playing the piano for choir at Marshall High School, organist at Ceresco Baptist Church for 20 years, and playing the organ at various funeral homes in Battle Creek.

She was married to Erbin "Pud" Handy for 29 years, ending in divorce. Her second husband of 13 years was Joel Howell, who passed away. Her third husband Corwin "Corky" Wherrett survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Ellen (Mark) Handy-Lipscomb; grandchildren, Adam (Christy) Lipscomb, Sarah (Brad) Emerson and Anna (Terry) Brown; great grandchildren, Ethan and Lily Emerson and Jude and Elijah Lipscomb. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Over the years Shirley has enjoyed travel, golf, animals, flowers, square dancing and playing bridge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2016, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Ceresco Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. www.henryfuneralhome.org
