Sue Schrimer Battle Creek Sue Schrimer, 82, of Battle Creek, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. Sue was born on August 20, 1930, in Leeuwardeen, The Netherlands, the daughter of Egbert and Clara (Boomsma) Mensonides. Sue's father was a member of the Dutch resistance during WWII. When she was a young girl she and her family would offer safety to fleeing Jews and help transport them to safe houses in the country. Sue met her future husband, George Schrimer, at a dance during the war. They were married on May 22, 1948 began their family and immigrated to Battle Creek in 1956. Sue was a professional seamstress for all her life and was proud to have helped make the tour guide outfits for the Kellogg Company. She later was employed as a nurse's aide at the old Lakeview General Osteopathic Hospital. Sue enjoyed gardening and quilting. She enjoyed volunteering and used her skills to make hats, lap quilts and walker bags and donated them to area charities such as the Haven of Rest. Sue was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed the church's sewing circle. Sue will always be remembered by her family as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded by her husband George on October 13, 2007. Sue is survived by her son Gary (Nancy) Schrimer and daughters Stacia Poole and Tina (Kevin) Rose all of Battle Creek. She also leaves her granddaughter Kelly Rose (Cory) Gibson of Petoskey and great grandchildren Breece and Trinley Gibson. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Royal Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2013 at Royal Funeral Home.
