Terry Allen VanVleet, Sr. Union City Terry Allen VanVleet, Sr., 69, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. A celebration of Terry's life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 10:00 A.M. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, located 3 miles east of M-66 on M-60, in Union City. Pastor Marvin Savola of North Athens Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Burr Oak Cemetery in Burr Oak, MI. A gathering of friends and family will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City. Terry was born in Battle Creek, Michigan to George and Mary Jane (Young) VanVleet. He graduated from Colon High School in 1962 and married Jeanette Parha VanVleet on May 15, 1965 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Burr Oak. Mr. VanVleet lived in Battle Creek most of his life. He worked for the Kellogg Co. in Battle Creek in the maintenance department. He retired in 1995 after 32 years of service. He and Jeanette have resided in Union City at Union Lake for the past 15 years. Terry loved Detroit Tiger baseball, auto racing and fishing. He was a loving and generous man with a jolly spirit. He was a wonderful father to his children and will be terribly missed by his family. Mr. VanVleet is survived by wife of 49 years, Jeanette VanVleet, his sons Terry (Sherrie) VanVleet, Jr. of Bronson, Jeff VanVleet of Battle Creek, Scott VanVleet and Todd VanVleet of Union City, his grandchildren Tony Olcheske, Adam VanVleet and Courtney VanVleet, his brothers Daryl (Marcia) VanVleet of Battle Creek and Phillip (Marilyn) VanVleet of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, his sisters Jeanie Hewitt of Bellevue, Barb (George Snyder) of East Leroy, Penny (John) Joyiak of Delton and Jackie (John) Malinowski of Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Duane VanVleet. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
