Verna J. Decker Verna J. Decker was born January 29, 1921 in Jackson, Michigan. She was one of nine children. She died peacefully Sunday, January 23, 2013 in Bensenville, Illinois. She married William H. Decker ll, in 1945. Her daughter, Susan Kaye was born in 1947. Her son, William H. Decker lll was born in 1949. She worked with her husband to create the Decker and VanderRoest Insurance Agency in Battle Creek, serving Southwest Michigan. Verna was a member of The Riverside Country Club and an avid golfer. In her mid 80s, she was still playing 18 holes at least fives time a week. She was also a member of a bridge club that met every other week for over 40 years. She was a founding member of The Westlake Presbyterian Church. As an active member, until her move to Bensenville, Illinois in 2004, she served in a variety of lay positions. Verna is survived by her son, William H. Decker III (Reverend Ms. Denise Tracy), of Elgin, Illinois, as well as five grandchildren, and two great grandsons. She is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Hoffman of Michigan Center, Michigan, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Westlake Presbyterian Church, 415 S. 28th Street at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 19th.
