Vivian Craig Obituary

Vivian Margaret (Stone) Craig Vivian Margaret (Stone) Craig was born in Battle Creek, Michigan on February 16, 1927. She passed away September 10, 2010 at Aegis Assisted Living Center, Carmichael, California. Vivian spent the last 16 months of her life at the Aegis of Carmichael Assisted Living Facility. Prior to Aegis, she lived at Lake Tahoe for 18 years, and Garden Grove, California, for nearly 40 years. Throughout Vivian's life, including her time at the Aegis facility, she loved to work, entertain, dance, and extend herself to those in need. One was always the better if Vivian happened by and found or saw someone she could help; many found safe haven at her home. Vivian Craig was the life of the party, always felt free to share her views and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to travel and considered going to movies and fine dining a necessary extravagance. Vivian was a stylish dresser and was known for her trademark red hats and berets. Her favorite sayings were: "There but for the Grace of God go I (or you)," and "Don't judge others if you haven't walked a mile in their shoes." Preceding Ms. Craig in death were a sister, Jackie Galloway of Orlando, Florida, and son David Arden Craig. Surviving are sister, Sally Pierce of Tigard, Oregon, and five remaining children and their families:; Robert E. (Marilyn) Drum of Encino, California; Terry L. Drum of Lansing, Michigan; Jeffrey R. Craig of Garden Grove, California; Mary M. (Chris) Hatton of Tahoma / Lake Tahoe, California; and Casey O' (Yvonne) Craig of Shelter Cove, California. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Many other friends remain across the Tahoe area, as well as southern California, East Lansing and Battle Creek, Michigan. The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Aegis of Carmichael, for providing a wonderful residence, their friendship and for assisting in providing her final care. A very special "Thank You" is extended to the Hospice staff that did not leave her side. Finally, "Thank you" Maria Chapin, for your loving offer of a special spot for "Mom's Tree" at beautiful E. W. Chapin Farms, Battle Creek Michigan - where Vivian played as a young girl and where her mother and uncle were born.

While I never had a chance to meet this wonderful lady, if her children are any indication of her beauty and spirit, than the world has truly suffered a loss.

She was a great human being, a great broad. Sweet, loving, cute, incredibly quick with her one liners ... adorable, and always fun to be around. What a terrible loss for family and friends. Our most memorable time was when we showed up on her doorstep in Garden Grove, in our hippy van, and she welcomed us into her vibrant household. We instantly felt like family. Over the years, her visits to our Michigan home brought lots of laughter ... if you wanted find find Vicki, you just followed the laughter, and you could always hear hers above the rest. She always lit up a room. In "It's a Wonderful Life", if you heard a bell ring it meant an angel got their wings. If you hear someone suddenly break out in laughter, we're sure it's Vicki getting hers. Sweet dreams and keep crackin' 'em up up there.
