In 1946 he married the love of this life, Beverly Ann Daly of Bellevue, and they would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in January. He is survived by his wife, Bev, both Sharon and Tom, as well as two granddaughters, two great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, three great-great-granddaughters, numerous cousins, in-laws, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Shirley (Berton) Williams.

Wendell was an outdoorsman at heart and loved farming, hunting, fishing, golf, and fast pitch softball. He was one of the founding members of the Rice Creek Softball Association and participated there for many years as a board member, player and coach. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Calhoun County Road Commission for most of his adult life until he retired in 1988. He was a natural musician and could play most any instrument despite having never had a lesson.
