Battle Creek

William Francis Lyons III, 60, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016, unexpectedly at his home. He was born December 24, 1955, the son of William F. Lyons, Jr. and Patricia A. (Jewell) Lyons, in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Billy graduated from Sacred Heart School, and was a former member of Sacred Heart Parish where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He graduated from BMC Durfee High School, Fall River, and served from 1975 through 1979 in the Air Force before being honorably discharged. He moved to Battle Creek in the early 1980's.

Billy is survived by his significant other of many years, Kathy McClain; brother, Michael P. Lyons; sisters, Cathleen L. Moniz (Douglas Morrow) and Maureen T. (Robert) Peloquin; nephews, William A. Deston, Nicholas F. Lyons, and Nicholas R. Peloquin; nieces, Alyssa M. Lyons, and Cara E. Peloquin; and step-siblings, William Heaney, Claire L. Margetta, Ellen Nasiff, James Heaney, and Susan Carvalho.

He is also survived by his great-nephew, William A. Deston, Jr, and great-great niece, Alana Deston; and beloved friends, Mike Bramble and Brian Maxon.

He was predeceased by his parents and his step-mother Claire (Heaney) Lyons;  his sisters Sheila M. Lyons, Anne E. Lyons, and Mary A. Lyons; and his very best friend of many years, Vaughn Armstrong.

Billy enjoyed volunteering in the community, and volunteered for many years at the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, and the VA. He loved all types of sports; he could talk about sports to anyone for hours and his favorites were baseball and football. Billy also loved music and animals, and was an avid reader.

A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Rd., on Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 12 pm with Deacon Vincent Genco officiating. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The LRP at the Haven, P.O. Box 52 Battle Creek, MI 49016
