William M. "Bill" VanZandt


William M. "Bill" VanZandt, 70, of Marshall, went quietly home in his sleep on September 11, 2014. Bill was born on December 18, 1943, in Marshall, the son of Clyde and Irene (Lawrence) VanZandt and had lived in Marshall most of his life. Bill was a 1964 graduate of Marshall High School and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served in California, Japan and Vietnam. Bill married "the girl across the street"  Susan (Carver) when he got home. Bill started working when he was 14 peddling newspapers and continued working his whole life. Bill was previously employed by Eaton Manufacturing, Post Cereals, and Eaton Manufacturing Proving Grounds. He was a devoted husband and father who prayed each morning for each member of his family. Bill accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1978 and was a member of West Eckford Missionary Church where he served as a teacher, Sunday School Superintendent and then as a Deacon for 20 years. Bill also attended Family Bible Church.

Bill leaves his wife of 46 years Susan VanZandt, his children Bill (Caye) VanZandt, Allen (Amy) VanZandt, Karen (Ryan) Powell and Kathy (Noel) Smith. Bill also leaves his grandsons David, Caleb, Andrew and Micah Powell and his sisters Beverly and Joyce VanZandt. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Irene VanZandt, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Carl Maurer and granddaughter Harley VanZandt.

Visitation will be from 10:00am to 12:00pm, Monday, September 15, 2014 at West Eckford Missionary Church with funeral services beginning at 12:00pm. Interment with military honors will be at West Eckford Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Lifespan or Crisis Pregnancy Center.
