Debirley Davis, 84, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
Mr. Davis the son of Reverend Willie M. and Mattie Davis, was born March 9, 1930, in Pittsview, Alabama. He was baptized and attended the African Methodist Episcopal Church where his father was the Pastor. He attended the Hurtsboro Public Schools.
He served in the United States Army February 1951 to February 1953, and received an Honorable Discharge. He met and later married the former Clara M. Fortson, March 18, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, and they later moved to Battle Creek, Michigan. He began his employment with the Kellogg Company in the Processing Department and retired with more than thirty-five years of service in 1988. He was a member of the Grain Millers Union, the Kellogg Twenty-Five Year Club and B J Bryant Elks Lodge. He enjoyed watching sports on television, playing cards and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Henry. Survivors include his wife, Clara M. Davis, sons, Paul J. Davis, Robert L. Davis and Willie M. Davis all of Battle Creek, daughters, Delois A. Davis of Marietta, Georgia, Letha (Bishop Hugh) Smith of Dexter, Michigan, six granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, special niece, Veronica (Aaron) Peterson and great niece, Erin Jessica.
