Voleta Pauline "Becky" Boyd-Hargus East Leroy Voleta Pauline "Becky" Boyd-Hargus, 86, of East Leroy, died at Bronson hospital in Kalamazoo, surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 15, 2012. Becky was born February 20, 1926 in Brownstown, IL to Sylvanus O. and Mary E. (Diveley) Hiatt. Becky worked at Percy Jones Hospital, Archway Cookies and Boydco, Inc. and retired as an administrative assistant to Johnnie Parker, Commander AFLC from the Federal Center. Becky was a member at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir and was the founder of the Sunday singles group. Prior to that she was a member of Maple United Methodist Church, where she was a youth counselor and taught Sunday school. She was an enthusiastic dancer which began as a youth by being a self-taught tap dancer. She also enjoyed golfing, brass band music, singing, wintering in Florida, attending the Battle Creek Picnic in Florida and entertaining family and friends. During her younger years, she liked to bowl, play softball and was active in the Jaycees Auxiliary. She was also dedicated to her volunteer work with the Crippled Children's Clinic at Leila hospital. She was a very active supporter of the Federal Women's Program and was also instrumental in documenting the Federal Center's long and eventful history. Becky is survived by her husband, Louis Hargus; a son, Bob (Sheila) Boyd of Sparta, MI; a daughter, Tammy Christian of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Cheryl (Richard) Dimond of East Leroy and Debbie (Dan) Dintamen of Plainwell; her grandchildren, Shane Boyd, Kyle Boyd, Meghan Boyd, Brendan Boyd, Jennifer (Jeremy) Lincoln, Jessica Boyd, Ryan Christian and Cole Christian; one great-granddaughter, Aly Lincoln; two step-granddaughters; five step great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lee (Connie) Hiatt of Maggie Valley, NC. Becky was formerly married to Lew Boyd. Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvanus and Mary Hiatt; brothers, Harry Hiatt, George Hiatt, Ray Hiatt, Ed Hiatt, and Bill Hiatt; sisters, Marie Krost, Mary Diveley, Laverne Penrod and Imogene Shell. At the request of the family, friends will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday; and 10:00-11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Becky's life will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
