Harold Herman "Bud" Haley Marshall Harold Herman "Bud" Haley, age 93, died Thursday evening, July 12, 2012 at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek following a long illness. Mr. Haley was born on October 5, 1918 in Kewanee, IL to Richard R. and Lucy (Herman) Haley. He had been a resident of the Marshall area since 1999, moving here from Deltona, Florida. Mr. Haley had been employed as a Supervisor for the General Motors Company for over 30 years and retired in 1972. During WWII, he served in the United States Navy and served on the Landing Ship Tank (LST) #1059 performing occupation duty in the Far East and in China. On July 26, 1941, he married the former Marjory "Doris" Milliken in Durand, Michigan. Mr. Haley was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a 20 year member of the LST Association. Harold enjoyed playing golf and bowling and had participated in several leagues. A favorite pastime was fishing at their cottage on Beaver Island. Mr. Haley was very proud of being a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp and had participated in the re-population of White Oaks to Upper Michigan. He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, M. Doris; daughters, Lynne Haley DDS of Marshall and Suzanne (Gregory Haines, MD) Haley of Detroit; son, Thomas John Haley of San Diego, CA; and nieces, Janet Smith Butler and Katie Smith Plumb and nephew, Richard Allen Smith. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Marie Smith. A memorial service to celebrate the gift of his life will be held 10 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home reception hall following the committal service.
