Helen G. DeVine Battle Creek Helen G. DeVine, 79, of Battle Creek, died October 31, 2012. She was born May 31, 1933, the daughter of Edward D. and Florence (Hoffmaster ) Gavney in Battle Creek. Helen attended Yorkville School and graduated from Kellogg Agriculture High School. She earned a B.S. at Michigan State University and attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts Where she studied art and interior design. She married Donald R. DeVine on November 1, 1958, he died in 1996. With her husband they operated DeVine Interiors and later DeVines Picture Framing and Home. Helen was a member of the Leila Arboretum Society for many years and worked on the Home and Garden Tours; was a member of the Battle Creek Historical Society and was a longtime member and board member of the Art Center of Battle Creek. Helen was also active in the Junior League of Battle Creek and was Sustainer-of-the-Year in 1985; she helped Junior League decorate the Kimball House Museum; and was a life member of P.E.O. Sisterhood Chapter AB and CalCo Quilters. Helen was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Martha Circle. She was an avid tennis player, a master gardener, enjoyed traveling and played bridge in a weekly bridge club for over 50 years. Surviving are daughters, Kathleen M. DeVine of Battle Creek and Lisa H. (Micheal Curtis) DeVine of Three Rivers. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and a brother, Edward Gavney. Family will receive friends Sunday, November 4 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. at Shaw Funeral Home. Funeral, 3:00 p.m., Monday, November 5 at First Presbyterian Church, Pastor Jeff Carlson, officiating.
