Robert O. "Bob" Schafer Battle Creek Robert O. "Bob" Schafer, 82, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the University of Michigan Hospital surround by his family. He was born in Albion, February 15, 1930 the son of Hubert L. Schafer and Gladys H. (Trowbridge) Finley. Bob was a 1948 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School and excelled at all sports, but especially football which he received a scholarship. He proudly serviced his country first with the US Air Force and then with the Michigan Air National Guard retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Bob was an Air Craft Sheet Metal Machinist working from 1950 until his retirement in 1985. On September 10, 1950, Robert O. Schafer was united in marriage to Patricia L. Johnson. He is survived by his wife Patricia ; a son, Craig Schafer of Battle Creek; a daughter, Cheryl (Dan) Ludwick of Bronson; granddaughters, Melissa (Ryan) Murphy, Jennifer (Jon) Marble both of Battle Creek; great-grandchildren, Makenzie, Aubrey, Raegan Murphy and Jackson Marble. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bob built five homes for himself and family; he was a member of AARP, American Legion, and Air National Guard Retirees. He loved hunting and fishing, working in his vegetable garden, having coffee or playing cards with friends, but mostly spending time with his family. At the request of the family, friends may visit Friday, November 23rd, 2-4 or 6-8 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, 105 Capital Ave. N.E, where a funeral service to celebrate his life will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the funeral home. Pastor Tom Townsend of the Calvary Baptist Church is officiating. Interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Friends who wish may make a memorial contribution to
