Donald F. Hoebeke, Jr. Battle Creek Donald F. Hoebeke, Jr., age 67, of Battle Creek passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 unexpectedly. Don was born September 28, 1945 in Bowling Green, KY the son of Donald F. Sr. and Britannia L. (Dennison) Hoebeke. Don graduated from Lakeview High School in 1963 and served in the US Navy for 4 years after his graduation from high school. Don began working for GTW Railroad and retired in 2007 from the now CN Railroad after 38 years of service. Don was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. His love for fishing began when he was a young boy and he would fish with his dad, uncles and special friends. Don started going to Lake Superior and the Wawa area in the 70's and made many friends over the years. His knowledge and friendship will be missed. Don's other passion over the last several years has been making annual trips to Alaska to fish. Don was a member of many wildlife organizations and took special interest in the endangerment of tigers. Don is survived by his sister, Janet (Paul) James of Whitehall; nephew, Ryan James of Whitehall; several other special nieces and nephews; special aunt, Thelma (Leonard) Orzechowski; special cousins, Julie Hoebeke and Doug Hoebeke; son of Sharon K. Lewis, Todd Hayes and his children Luke and Corey; sister of Sharon K Lewis, Gloria Lewis; special friends, John Henry of Battle Creek, Brad Buck of Wawa, Ontario, and Robert Scott of Sault Ste Marie; and many other special friends and family. Don was preceded in death by his parents; fiancée, Sharon K Lewis; step-mother, Freda Fatato-Hoebeke (her children survive); and special friend, Harold Irish. Don will be remembered for his kind spirit and caring nature towards all humanity and his love and compassion for animals, both domestic and wild. Don knew how to fish in the Wawa area better than most of the locals. Don is now looking down saying there's a good spot to fish right there. Good fishing Don! You are loved and will be missed. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held sometime in the spring. Announcement will appear in local publications prior to that.
