Clayton Higgins Battle Creek Clayton J. Higgins, age 74, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 surrounded by family in his home. He was born January 24, 1939 to Edgar Higgins and Evabelle (Hart) Higgins in Battle Creek, Michigan. He served 3 years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1959. He married Gula Mae (Taylor) Carter, September 17, 1960. Their marriage ended April 29, 1985. Clayton met Peggy (Thomas) Higgins in 1985 and they were married on April 3, 1996. Clayton retired from UPS in 1996 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed golf, the History Channel, and traveling. He took great pride in his landscaping, his yard was immaculate. His sense of humor preceded him and his smile just warmed your heart. Clayton was very involved with his grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events. Most of all he loved playing with his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful father and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy of 28 years; children, Gregory Ace (Lori) Higgins, Zona Christine (Ron) Amstutz, Ursula Anne (Pete) Hubley; step-daughter, Kellie Ann Butson; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother, Ronald (Doretta) Higgins, Robert (Deborah) Higgins; sister, Clarice (John) Rocho, Carol (David) Taylor; and sister-in-law, Anna Higgins. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, a great-grandchild, his parents, and brother, Clarence Higgins. Family will receive friends at Baxter Funeral Service on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 2:00PM-4:00PM & 6:00PM-8:00PM and Sunday, February 24, 2013 2:00PM-4:00PM. Funeral services will take place Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:30AM at the funeral home with Reverend Gerald Steele officating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
