Velma Beatrice (Vest) Montgomery Battle Creek Velma Beatrice (Vest) Montgomery, 89, of Battle Creek, MI, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born October 26, 1923 in Danville, Alabama the daughter of Monroe Vest and Buford (Brown) Vest. During WWII, Velma came to Michigan and worked in Detroit. After being married she moved to Battle Creek where she was employed at General Foods (Post) for 30 years, retiring in 1980. Velma is survived by a daughter: Janet (Martin) Fredenburg of Battle Creek, MI; son: Larry Montgomery of Battle Creek, MI; 5 grandchildren: Michele Ware, Travis Fredenburg, Trevor Fredenburg, Lauren Walters and Evan Montgomery; 6 great-grandchildren: Skyler DeYoung, Grayson DeYoung, Makenna Fredenburg, Macey Fredenburg, Noah Fredenburg, Aurora Walters and Tucker Ware. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 52 Years: Lester D. Montgomery; brothers: Wesley, Leldon and Robert Vest; and sister: Ethel Cheatham. Velma enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, golfing, cards and her beloved Detroit Tigers. She was a member of the Post 25 Year Club and former member of the Temple Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service, 375 W. Dickman Road, on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 1 PM. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
