Dave McCoo, Jr. Battle Creek Dave McCoo, Jr, 91, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, Friday, March 8, 2013. He was the son of the late Dave and Addie (Greenwood) McCoo, Sr., born August 10, 1921, in Osaka, Virginia. He attended the Public Schools and graduated from High School. Dave served in the United States Army from March 2, 1945 to November 25, 1946, and received an Honorable Discharge. He met and later married the former Dorthea Stacy, December 15, 1951, in Osaka, Virginia. They lived in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, and in 1952, moved to Battle Creek. He was employed by the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Battle Creek, for more than thirty years. He retired in 1987 from the Social Service Department. During the 1970's Dave owned and operated Mac's Grocery on Kendall Street. Dave united with Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church where he was a faithful member for more than fifty years. He was an excellent mentor and role model for many young men in the community. He enjoyed driving his white corvette, gardening and he took great care and pride in his yard. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Dorthea, December 17, 2005, son, Dennis McCoo, brother, Eddie and sister, Mary. He is survived by daughters, Donni McCoo of Las Vegas, Nevada, Diane (Robert) Brown of Battle Creek, granddaughters, Janthieia, Tana, Dion and four great-grandchildren. Memorial Gathering, 3:00 p.m. Sunday, TM Hughes-Perry Chapel where the family will receive friends. Moments of Celebration, 4:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the chapel, Reverend Archie Criglar, officiating. Committal Service, Monday, March 18, 2013, Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Michigan, with Reverend Craig Tatum, officiating.
