Anita Wood Obituary

Anita Wood, 67

Ms. Anita Faye (Briggs) Wood, of Maumelle, AR, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 31st, at the age of 67. Anita was born to parents Lynn and Faye Briggs on January 12, 1948, in Gassville, Arkansas. She grew up as the eldest of three and attended Flippin High School. She married Lou Wood, also of Flippin, in 1967 and was married for over twenty years. She attended Arkansas Tech in Russellville before ultimately graduating with her undergraduate degree from Henderson in Arkadelphia. She later obtained her Master's degree in English from the University of Central Arkansas.

Anita was a dedicated member of the Arkansas Public School System for over 40 years. She served as a teacher and administrator at numerous schools throughout the state in her career. Even after retirement some 5 years ago, she would periodically substitute at her grandson's school in Little Rock.

Anita is survived by her daughter, Amanda Booe (Jamie); her son, Travis Wood; her sister, Karen Shelby (Cliff); her brother, Rick Briggs (Corrinnia); grandchildren Carley, Evan, Lane and Luke, and several nieces and nephews. She also left behind her beloved dogs, Milly, Ivy Rose, and Abe. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Following her wishes of a cremation, a "Celebration of Life" will be held on Monday, Sept. 7th from 6p-8p at Blue Heron Campground in Flippin, AR for friends and family. The family is grateful for condolences; in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis or Helping Hands for Little Paws in Little Rock.

Memories and Condolences
for Anita Wood

Not sure what to say?

"Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more that a thought apart. For as long there is a memory, they'll live on in our hearts." - Author Unknown. Mandy and Travis, my prayers and thoughts are with you. I will always miss her!!

I enjoyed Mrs. Wood as an administrator in Pea Ridge while I was the gifted and talented coordinator there. I know it was so important to her to spend time with her grandchildren and I am thankful she had these years to do that.

Condolences to the family and friends of Mrs. Wood. I was also fortunate to have Mrs. Wood as an English teacher at Valley Springs High School for a few years, she was a very kind and helpful teacher.
It's hard to grow up and lose the people in your past that were role models for us as kids. We were very lucky to have such loving, caring people in our small community that truly cared for the young people.
Thanks to her for sharing in my journey through high school.

Anita and I grew up together and our birthdays were 4 days apart(of course we always joked she was the oldest). We spent many hours together as we grew up. She was a great lady both inside and outside. May God grant you all peace during this most difficult time. She will be missed.

Anita was a precious friend who always knew the right thing to say, and if not that, at least something witty. I loved her dearly and we got through some rough times gathered around her kitchen table. I'm so sorry and pray God's peace for you all. Love, Suzanne

Anita was my first best-friend, beginning in 1st grade, and she remained so until my family moved at the end of 8th grade. We kept in touch for a while but soon life took over and we stopped calling and writing. I will never forget her. I have thought of her often. She will truly be missed.

One of my favorite memories of our friendship is the day many years ago that we shared the rental of a garden disk and prepared our backyard gardens. It took both of us to handle the thing. We were hilarious but we got it done.

My deepest condolences for the loss of a wonderful person. Very beautiful inside and out! Anita Wood was one of those teachers that pushed us to be better. She once took me out of class and made me sit in a room in the library to write a speech for the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution http://www.dar.org/national-society/education/youth-programs ). To my great surprise, I won the contest. I hope everyone has a teacher that takes a special interest in them, One like Mrs. Wood who sees something that you do not even see yourself. I am sad. I need to think of the people that have made a difference in this world, and make sure they know how much I appreciate them.
