Prentice Jackson Custer, Sr., 91
CDR Prentice Jackson Custer, Sr., USN Retired, age 91, of Elizabeth, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Baxter Regional Medical Center. He was born August 6, 1922, in Viola, Arkansas to Byron H. and Frances (Bush) Custer. One of the youngest members of the select group of Navy "mustangs," he served in WWII
as an enlisted pilot, continuing on to have a distinguished career in the Navy he loved. During that time he married Lorene Cummerland, and, later, Kathryn Johnson of Pensacola, Florida, with whom he had five children. After retiring in Hawaii, Jack married his beloved wife Gerd Danielson in 1976. Together they moved to the mainland and spent many years exploring North America in their motor home. Ultimately settling on Lake Norfork in his ancestral region of Arkansas, Jack and Gerd quickly became an indispensable part of their community, befriending and helping one and all. Dearly beloved of family and community, he remained until his death a warm and loving man of honor and great dignity.
