Betty Morris, 77

Betty Jean Morris died on April 24, 2015 in Dallas, Texas after a long battle with Multiple Mylenoma. She is survived her two sons, Ron D. and Robert J. (Jeff), two daughters-in-law, Debbie and Cathy, six grandchildren: Megan, Kyle, Gavin, James, Matt, and Caroline, one great-grandchild, Dillon. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ron Morris.

Betty was born to Thomas Levi (Lee) and Wilma Faye Douglas on Jul. 26, 1937 in Mountain Home, Ark. Her father was a farmer while her mother was a teacher. Betty graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1955, where she was President of the Library Club and played saxophone in the band. Betty attend the University of Arkansas, where she completed her degree in Library Science in the summer of 1959. While at the U of A, Betty met Ron Morris, a native of DeQueen Ark., they were married that summer on June 21.

Betty joined Ron in New York where he worked at General Electric, and Betty completed her Master's Degree in Library Science for Syracuse University. They started a family while in New York, but soon moved to Dallas where they stayed all their lives.

Betty and Ron endowed the Morris Scholarships, 10 at University of Arkansas, 2 at ASU - Mountain Home and 2 at Cossatot Community College. 100s of students were able to attend college and receive their degrees with the help of a Morris Scholarship. Ron and Betty delighted in the number of moving letters these students have sent them over the years.

In her life Betty was most proud of Ron, their family, and 55 wonderful years of marriage.
