Dorothy L. Piper, 98, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on May 25, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

She was born on January 17, 1917, in Harvard, Nebraska, to Ralph and Lydia Gray. Dorothy grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School.

On May 18, 1939, she married Robert S. Piper at Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. To this union, two children were born.

For many years, Dorothy channeled her energy into home and family, supplemented by Parent/Teacher Association and Presbyterian Church work. In her later years, she allowed herself the luxury of focusing on herself and discovered that she had a talent for writing poetry and oil painting.

Survivors include a daughter, Penny (Halil) Samuk of Mountain Home; a son, Dale (Mary) Piper of Norfork, Arkansas; a step granddaughter, Virginia (James) Butler of Angel Fire, New Mexico; a sister, Agnes Neumann of Bettendorf, Iowa; a niece, Elaine (Larry) Quayle of Palmetto, Florida; and a nephew, James (Ruthann) Neumann of Davenport, Iowa.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, a brother, and two nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Morningside Presbyterian Church, 4327 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City, Iowa 51106, or Hospice of the Ozarks, 701 Burnett Drive, Mountain Home, Arkansas 72653.

Services will be private. Arrangements are by Roller Funeral Home.
