Howard Leonard McFarland, 88
Howard Leonard McFarland was born September 15, 1925, to Ely and Emma (Davenport) McFarland in Gassville, Arkansas. He went to his Lord on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the age of 88 years, three weeks and four days. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater. After the service, he joined the Army Corps of Engineers, he worked for them for 31 years. During his time with them, he assisted in the construction of the Bull Shoals Dam, Table Rock Dam, Greers Ferry Dam, Heber Springs Dikes and the Beaver Dam. He also worked the Arkansas River and did inspections on most recreation areas around both Norfork and Bull Shoals Lakes.
Mr. McFarland is survived by his wife Sara McFarland of Gassville, a son: Tim McFarland and wife Debbie of Gassville, daughters: Mary Caststeel and husband Ed of Gassville and Donna Lee and husband Joe of Clarkridge, granddaughters: Emily Bridgman, Sarah Hosford and Rachel Bridgman and a great granddaughter: Melanie Hosford. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Rector, Louis, Ralph, Fred and Ruiey McFarland and a sister: Luvenia Stafford.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013 at Gassville Baptist Church with Brother Ronnie Thomas officiating. A visitation will be Monday from Noon until service time at the church. Interment will be in Gassville City Cemetery.
