Lt. Col (Ret) John E. Hester, 95
Lt. Col (Ret) John E. Hester passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at his home in Mountain Home, AR. John, one of eight children, was born on August 19, 1918 to the late Joseph and Sophie Hester in Taylorsville, MS.
John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1935 and married his partner for life, Pauline Cater in 1940. They were married for 72 years.
During John's 28 year military career, he served in Japan; Germany; Turkey; Libya; Iran; Egypt and Morocco. He retired in 1963 at Blytheville Air Force Base.
He is survived by two sons, Richard Hester (Alison) of Mountain Home and Jerry Hester (Gail) of Conway; five grandchildren: Kimberly Willits (Chad) of Fredericksburg, VA; John-Embree Hester (Naomi) of Maryland, NY, Kyle Hester of Mountain Home, Jessica Hester of St. Louis, MO and Alex Hester of Mountain Home, Brian Bentley of Junction City, AR; one great grandchild, Jeremiah Hester of Maryland NY and two sisters: Delaine Lewis of Taylorsville, MS and Sidney Ann Boutwell of Laurel, MS and many other loving family members and friends.
In retirement, John rekindled his youthful passion for fishing and gardening and continued his enjoyment for travel, making numerous cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, East Coast/Canada and Central America. He had the unique ability to remember, in detail, occurrences from many years past, and later in life, began to write extensively about his childhood and years in the service. His memoirs are a testament to his legacy as both an entertaining and humorous story teller.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at the Roller Funeral Home Chapel with Funeral Celebrant Frank Daniels officiating. A visitation will be Monday from noon until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Baxter Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Honor.
