Johnie "John" Wesley Doolen, 80

Johnie "John" Wesley Doolen, age 80, passed away at his home in Alpharetta, Georgia, January 13th, 2016.

Visitation will be held at Christ's Church -Perseverance on HH Highway between Carterville and Carthage on January 29th between 4-6PM. A graveside service will be held on Saturday January 30th at 11AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Carthage, MO.

John leaves behind his beloved wife of 60 years, Thelma, a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandy Doolen of Alpharetta, a granddaughter, "Lil Bit", Faith, a brother, Gary, and sisters, Becky, Charlene, Jessie.

John retired in 2015 after 50 years serving as a pastor in various Christian Churches located in Missouri and Arkansas including Avila (MO), Foster (MO), Webb City (MO), Yellville (AR), Merwin (MO), Diamond (MO), Rich Hill (MO), Nevada (MO), and Neosho (MO). During this span, John and Thelma also spent a brief time as missionaries in the Philippines. His trademark closing remarks after any service were always "Read your Bible and Pray".

John has left a legacy that has touched thousands of people as he journeyed through life as a Church leader, Songwriter, Singer, member of Missouri's National Guard, an Officiant to over one thousand weddings and funerals, a Husband, a Father and Grandfather.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Johnie Doolen to the General Scholarship Fund at Ozark Christian College in Joplin.
