Joyce Gundry, 91

Joyce Gundry, Age 91, passed away peacefully at her residence in Churchville, VA on August 29, 2016.

She was born in Clapham, England, outside of London, on March 26, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Ethyl Myers.

She attended Godolpin and Latymer Girl's School until the outbreak of WWII. She survived the Blitz and attacks from German V1 and V2 missiles. At one stage, she worked as a secretary to Winston Churchill.

She married an American serviceman, Jim Cooper, in 1945, and returned with him to Iowa in 1945.

Joyce worked as a secretary for many years in a real estate office in Clear Lake, Iowa, where she earned a real estate license. With her second husband, John Ripple, whom she married in 1972, she operated Hotel Victoria in Garner, Iowa until retiring in 1985. She and John moved to Flippin, Arkansas in 1985.

After John's death in 1997, she met and married Richard Gundry in 2002 and moved to Mountain Home, AR. After Richard's death in 2006, she relocated to Staunton, VA to be with her son and his family.

She was a longtime member of Elks Lodge #1714 in Mountain Home, where she had many happy memories.

She is survived by her son Randy Cooper, his wife Eileen, and only granddaughter Whitney. She is the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and two former husbands. She also leaves behind her special friends Roger Ripple and Betty Davis.

Arrangements are by Charlton and Groome Funeral Home and Crematory.
